Tamil Typing Guide — Tamil99 Online Practice

Tamil typing in India typically uses the Tamil99 standard layout on QWERTY hardware. TypingBit teaches key-by-key mapping — not Tanglish phonetic typing.

Why Tamil99 instead of Tanglish?

Tanglish (typing "vanakkam" to get வணக்கம்) depends on IME software and varies by device. Tamil99 maps each physical key to one Tamil letter, matching government exams and office systems in Tamil Nadu.

Combining consonants and vowels

Type a consonant key, then a vowel key to add the vowel sign (pulli). Example: press keys for க then the vowel key for ஆ to produce கா. Use the on-screen keyboard guide on TypingBit when learning.
