Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about TypingBit typing practice, scoring, accounts, and languages.
Is TypingBit free to use?
Yes. Typing tests and games are free in your browser. Creating an optional account lets you save personal bests and appear on the daily leaderboard when signed in.
What is a good typing speed (WPM)?
For English, 40–60 WPM is solid for office work. Students should check their exam requirements. Tamil and other script speeds vary while learning a new keyboard layout.
How is WPM calculated?
We measure words typed per minute using the standard five-characters-per-word formula. Accuracy is based on correct characters versus the target passage, including mistakes and corrections.
How does Tamil typing work on TypingBit?
We use the Tamil99 layout: each English key on your keyboard types one Tamil letter. Open the keyboard guide on Tamil practice pages for the full map.
Which languages are supported?
More than 40 languages including English, Tamil, Hindi, Thai, Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and major European languages. Each has its own practice page with layout notes where needed.
Do I need to install software?
No. TypingBit runs in your web browser on desktop and mobile. Use a physical keyboard for best results on timed tests.
Do you store my typing data?
Guest sessions are not linked to an account. If you sign in, we store your scores and personal bests to show progress on your profile. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How is accuracy calculated?
We compare each character you type to the target passage. Errors include wrong characters, missing characters, and extra characters.
Can I use TypingBit on mobile?
Yes, but a physical keyboard gives the most accurate WPM results. Mobile works well for browsing languages and reading keyboard guides.
Can I practice for government typing exams?
Our tests help build speed and accuracy. Always confirm which keyboard standard (QWERTY English or Tamil99) your specific exam uses before test day.
