How to Reach 60 WPM in English Typing
Sixty WPM is a common professional benchmark. Here is a realistic path from 35–40 WPM to sixty with structured practice.
Know your baseline
Take three medium English tests on different days. Average the WPM and accuracy. That average is your honest baseline — not your best lucky run.
Four-week outline
Week 1: accuracy focus, easy and medium passages only. Week 2: add one hard passage every other day. Week 3: alternate medium and hard. Week 4: add short expert bursts with rest between.
Track weekly averages in a notebook or spreadsheet. Expect non-linear progress — plateaus are normal before jumps.
Tamil and other languages
Sixty English WPM does not translate directly to Tamil99 or Chinese IME speeds. Set separate goals per language and celebrate incremental gains.
Benchmarks between 40 and 60 WPM
At forty-five WPM, most typists benefit from targeted drills on problem keys rather than harder passages. Identify the three characters you miss most often and practice words containing only those letters for five minutes.
Fifty-five WPM with stable accuracy is close enough to sixty that full passages at medium difficulty — not expert — usually push you over the line within two weeks of consistent practice.
