German typing uses Latin letters plus umlauts and Eszett. Physical German keyboards swap Y and Z compared to US QWERTY.
Umlauts and ß
Ä, Ö, Ü, and ß appear frequently in everyday German. On a German keyboard they are dedicated keys. On US layouts you often use dead keys or Alt combinations — practice the layout you will use in exams or work.
