A Parent's Guide to Typing Practice
Typing supports homework, coding classes, and exams. Parents can coach process without becoming harsh timers.
Goals by age
Elementary learners benefit from 5–10 minutes daily on easy passages. Middle school students can handle 15 minutes with accuracy rules. High school exam candidates may need language-specific layouts (Tamil99, etc.) — confirm school requirements first.
Praise accuracy and effort
Celebrate clearing a passage or beating a personal best, not only raw speed. Children who rush for WPM often plateau with sloppy habits.
Use TypingBit graphs together: ask what the WPM line means and why the last sentence dipped — that builds metacognition.
Screen time boundaries
Pair typing with offline activities. Practice sessions should end when accuracy collapses from fatigue, not after an arbitrary punitive timer.
